NCJI DAN GRADE PROMOTION PROTOCOL

2009 Promotion Recommendation Procedures Revised 1

Promotion Protocol FAQ.

As President of North Carolina Judo, Inc., I have directed Promotion Chairperson Mr. Woody Bostic to establish a Promotion Committee to review and approve all NCJI Dan grade promotions. He is in the process of developing an electronic system so that the majority of the promotion information can be reviewed by Committee members on a computer generated system. If concerns by a Committee member cannot be satisfied by email then the committee will meet to review and discuss the candidate’s documentation for promotion.

The following is the selection criteria for NCJI Promotion Committee members:

Committee members must be a current USA Judo member

Committee members must be a current NCJI member

Committee members must have a current USA judo rank certificate of Yodan or higher

The Promotion Committee will adhere to the following rules:

  ·         All Dan grade USA/NCJI promotion applications will be reviewed by the Committee

·         If the majority of the Committee has a concern with an individual then the Committee will come together to discuss the individual’s credentials and to test either the technical ability and/or Kata ability.

·         When the majority of the Committee members are satisfied with the ability and progress of the candidate the Promotion Committee will document their decision by recording a unanimous decision.

·         All communications among Committee members must remain confidential within the committee.

·         Committee members will remain diligent when reviewing the canadate’s record to assure the highest possible standards are maintained in NCJI in accordance with USA judo. Tournament records will be examined to assure that no empty awards are given more credit than allowed by USA Judo, i.e. 1st place Kata team when only one Kata team competed, in competition a gold medal award without an opponent.

 Promotion Committee protocol:

  ·         All USA Dan grade promotion forms must be completed in detail as required by USA Judo and outlined on the USA judo web site. Omissions of any information will be considered as a failed promotion application.

·         Promotions for Yodan or higher will be reviewed four times a year in time for the 45 day submission requirements of USA judo.  That is to indicate that High Dan promotions will be submitted to the USA Judo national office for the USA judo Promotion Committee review prior to the 45 day cutoff.

·         Promotions of 1st Dan to 3rd Dan are within NCJI authority and may be submitted to the NCJI promotion chairperson at any time for NCJI committee review. 1st Dan through 3rd Dan must include the same detailed information and enclosures that are required by USA judo High Dan promotions and outlined on the USA Judo web site

·         All promotions requests are sent first to our NCJI chairperson. All promotion requests must include the same information and detail as required by USA Judo as instructed on the USA judo web site. Approved promotion applications do not leave our State without the promotion Chairpersons signature, if a situation occurs where the Chairperson is not available to sign the document as President I will complete the process .

·         All promotion requests sent to our NCJI Promotion Chairperson must include an addressed and properly stamped envelope to USA Judo. Once requirements are satisfied the application is signed by our NCJI Chairperson, the application will be placed in the envelope and forwarded to USA Judo. The addressed envelope requirement may be deleted at a later date if the National Office will accept our electronic Dan grade promotion procedure when and if that procedure is complete and operating properly.

The NCJI Promotion Committee Chairperson will appoint a Committee secretary who will maintain hard copies of all Dan promotions requests and any pertinent information for our records.

The Promotion Chairperson may facilitate the Committee at any time to review the promotion requests electronically. Any issues will be dealt with by the Committee members in a confidential manner.

When a request for promotions is rejected by the Chairperson or Committee the individual will receive a letter indicating the criteria that must be improved. If applicable the applicant’s coach will also receive a copy of the letter in order to assist the student to obtain his or her goal.

If you meet the Promotion Committee selection criteria and are willing to follow the guidelines and work toward a more competent Dan rank promotion procedure in our NCJI/USA judo organization, please submit your name and credentials by email to our Promotion Chairperson Mr. Woody Bostic. Mr. Bostic will make the Committee selection.   His email address is woody_bostic@yahoo.com.
